Developing an app with ideas about compassion, recovery and everyday life

Developing an App – It’s Never Too Late to Start

I never thought I would be sitting here developing an app. But right now, that is exactly what I am doing.

When I Started Developing an App

Yesterday was one of those summer days that was simply allowed to be. The sun was warm, the lake was calm, and the water invited us in for a swim. When I think back on the day, what I feel most is gratitude. Nothing extraordinary really happened, but the day unfolded in that special way that leaves the body feeling calm even the next day.

Today, I was actually supposed to write about the library here on the blog. But sometimes life takes us in a different direction.

Because right now, my thoughts are somewhere else entirely.

They are living inside an app.

When an Idea Won’t Let Go – Developing an App

I’m sitting at home on the sofa, thinking. The app is still only at the very beginning, but I find it almost impossible to let go of it. As soon as a new thought appears, I wonder:

Could this become a feature in the app? Or is it just an ordinary grey thought passing through?

You have to start somewhere, and that is exactly where I am right now – at the beginning.

There is something wonderful about simply going with the flow and allowing the ideas to come without immediately stopping them.

Can We Really Learn Something Completely New?

I never thought I would be sitting here trying to build an app.

Me, someone who has mostly just been blogging.

But there you go – even those of us who have passed sixty can learn new things.

It is easy to think that technology belongs to another generation. But perhaps age is not what determines what we are capable of. Maybe curiosity matters more than the year we were born.

From a Food App to Something Much Bigger

At first, the idea was quite simple. I wanted to create a food app with a compassion-focused approach – an app that wasn’t about demands and performance, but about kindness and sustainable habits.

But ideas have a strange way of growing.

Now it is no longer just about food.

It is about everyday life. Structure, recovery, health, reflection, and all those little things that can make daily life work a little better.

At first, I thought the app might be useful for young people who had recently moved away from home. But the more I think about it, the more I realise that it could potentially help many more people.

Parents. Older adults. People with ADHD and people without a diagnosis. Really, anyone who sometimes needs a little support to make everyday life work more smoothly.

That Creative Haze That Comes From Developing an App

I notice that my mind is working almost all the time. Whenever a new thought appears, it immediately finds its way into the app.

It is almost as though my brain has discovered a new language.

I don’t know whether the app will ever be completely finished. I don’t even know whether it will become as good as I hope it will.

But I do know that I’m enjoying it.

It has been a long time since I felt this curious about where an idea might lead. Perhaps it will end up being a tool just for me. Perhaps it will grow into something that other people can benefit from too.

I don’t know yet.

For now, it is enough to simply be in this phase – allowing the ideas to come without slowing them down too soon.

Because sometimes the result isn’t the most important thing.

Sometimes what matters is having the courage to begin.

Developing an app has turned out to be about much more than technology. For me, it is just as much about ideas, everyday life, and thinking about what could genuinely help people.

What About You?

Have you ever had an idea that simply refused to leave you alone?

Is there something you have wanted to try for a long time but thought you were “too old”, “too inexperienced”, or that it was simply “too late” to begin?

And yet, somewhere inside, you are still curious about it?

Feel free to tell me in the comments. I always read them with great interest.
