Growing older and living with curiosity

Growing Older and Living – I’m Not Finished Yet

Growing older and living with curiosity – that is something I find myself thinking about today. Yesterday, we stopped by the football tournament in our little village. Lillfia was playing, and of course we wanted to be there and watch.

Growing Older and Living with Curiosity

It is strange how quickly time passes. Once, I stood beside football pitches watching my own children play. Now it is the next generation running around out there.

It is a strange feeling, and at the same time a reminder of how much life changes. Lillfia is growing up, and I am growing older. Time keeps moving, and today I can actually feel in my body that quite a few years have passed.

But there is still so much life inside me.

Maybe I haven’t become wiser. Maybe I am still the same person I have always been, just with more years behind me.

Today I realise how little I actually know and how much I still don’t understand. When I was 20, I probably thought I knew much more about life than I really did.

The strange thing is that the older I get, the more clearly I see how little I truly know.

Maybe that is part of growing older – no longer needing to have all the answers.

Then again, perhaps it is simply part of living. Maybe we would never have dared to live fully if, from the beginning, we had understood just how little we really knew. Perhaps we wouldn’t have dared to try all those things we have tried over the years. We might not have dared to make mistakes, start again or choose a road without knowing where it would lead.

Maybe sometimes we need to believe we know a little more than we actually do, simply to have the courage to live.

A New Day in LVL²

Today I woke up in LVL². Another weekend in the motorhome, and today we are planning to cycle into town for lunch. There will hopefully be one or several swims as well, and then we will simply let the day unfold.

There probably won’t be many of my usual morning swims for a while. The road down to the lake has been closed while drainage work is being carried out. There is another gravel road we can use, but it didn’t feel particularly good to drive on.

So my morning swims may have to wait unless I decide to swim in one of the other lakes instead.

But I don’t want to swim alone, so perhaps I simply have to wait until the usual road down to my lake is open again.

And perhaps that is a little like life too.

Sometimes we have to take another road. Sometimes we have to wait. And sometimes we simply have to accept that things didn’t turn out quite as we had planned.

Growing Older and Living – While Building an App

In the middle of motorhome life, swimming and all these thoughts about the passing years, I am also doing something completely new. I am now on my third day of testing the app I am building.

And I am finding bugs.

Small things that don’t work quite the way I intended. Something disappears when it shouldn’t, something else needs to work differently, and sometimes I discover things I hadn’t even considered when I started.

But that is exactly why I am testing it.

There is something fascinating about sitting here writing about growing older and how little I really know while, at the same time, building an app and learning new things every day.

I don’t have to know everything before I begin. I can try, discover that something went wrong, change it and try again.

Just like life.

Between the Lines – Growing Older and Living

Maybe it isn’t about how many years we have lived or how much we have managed to learn. Maybe it is more about remaining curious.

About being able to say: I don’t know how to do this yet.

I can look back at many years of my life and see how much has changed. My children grew up, and now the next generation is standing on the football pitch. Sometimes my body reminds me that the years are passing.

But there are still things to discover, learn and create.

Perhaps we don’t have to be finished just because we grow older.

Growing older and living with curiosity may be exactly that – understanding that we are never truly finished.

Reflection

How do you feel about growing older?

Do you feel that the years have made you wiser – or have they made you more aware of how much you still don’t know?

Is there something you started later in life that your 20-year-old self could never have imagined?

And is there still something you would like to learn, create or dare to try?

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. Sometimes the most interesting conversations begin when we discover that other people are wondering about the same things.
