Flying goose against a blue sky – routines after summer and everyday life

A Weekend Lived – Finding Our Way Back to Everyday Life

Another weekend has been lived, and little by little we are finding our way back to our routines after summer.

But first, we had a weekend with LVL², cycling, football, grandchildren, sushi and a very cold swim.

Now, I wasn’t the one playing football. I was standing on the sidelines watching. The one playing was my little grandchild.

My other little grandchild was there too, although the football matches weren’t quite as interesting. Instead, other children were found who didn’t think football was all that exciting either. And that’s actually quite a good solution to a long day beside the football pitch.

That’s sometimes what weekends are like. We adults have our plans, while the children find their own things to do in the middle of it all.

One part of late summer where we live is the football tournament, when lots of children come from near and far to play football here in our little village.

LVL² Took Us to Mellerud

During our motorhome trip, we had planned to have a barbecue, but that didn’t actually happen.

Instead, I found a sushi restaurant in Mellerud.

And sushi – I really like sushi.

So the barbecue simply had to wait. We had it at home yesterday after the football tournament was over.

That’s also something I like about motorhome life. We can have a plan when we set off, but we don’t have to follow it exactly. If we find something else along the way, we can do that instead.

Part of our routines after summer is that the motorhome gets to rest during the weekdays and come out at weekends instead. Small trips, just for a weekend.

A Really Cold Swim

I also went swimming.

And it was cold.

Really cold.

Lake Vänern is quite cold, so perhaps that wasn’t particularly surprising. But I got into the water, and once the first shock of the cold had passed, the swim was actually refreshing.

There won’t be any swimming there for a while now, though. The road to the swimming spot will be closed for the next few weeks.

So the coming weeks will mostly be spent at home.

And actually, that suits me quite well.

Now We Continue Working on the App

Because at home there is something else I want to continue working on – the app.

I’ve mentioned it here before, but we’ve now reached the stage where we’re actually testing it in everyday life.

And that’s when you start discovering things.

Something that seemed completely obvious when we thought of it may not feel nearly as obvious when you actually try to use it.

We find bugs. We discover things that are missing. Something needs to be moved, something needs to be simplified, and sometimes a completely new idea appears simply because we’re using the app ourselves.

The basic idea is still the same:

The app should help people in everyday life.

It shouldn’t become yet another thing telling you everything you ought to be doing. I want it to help create a little more overview and structure instead.

We’re currently testing features for food and recipes, shopping lists, water, movement, sleep, stress, recovery, planning and reflection.

And there are more ideas.

Some of the tools that already exist here on Malix may eventually find a place in the app too.

Free Should Actually Mean Useful

One thing I’ve thought a lot about is the free version.

I don’t want to create one of those apps that you download for free, only to discover that almost everything you actually want to use is locked behind a payment.

The free version should genuinely be useful.

Then there could be an option to add more for those who want additional features or particular tools.

Exactly what the final version will look like, we don’t know yet.

That’s precisely why we’re testing it.

Routines After Summer – School Will Soon Begin Again

At the same time, summer is slowly beginning to change.

Schools will soon start again, and it’s time to get the routines ready for the new school term.

For us, routines after summer aren’t about suddenly changing everything. We’re already quite routine-oriented, so most of our routines have actually remained in place throughout the summer. But some things have been allowed to run a little later, and I think that’s perfectly fine during the summer holidays.

Now it’s time to slowly move those times back again.

Going to bed on time.

Getting up in the morning.

Getting meals and everyday life back into their usual rhythm.

Not everything in a single day, but little by little.

Perhaps that’s what everyday life really is.

We need both the spontaneous moments – forgetting about the barbecue and eating sushi in Mellerud instead – and the routines that make life work when Monday morning arrives.

And somewhere in between, our app is beginning to take shape.

From real life.

From the things that actually need to work on an ordinary Monday.

Now I’m Curious About You

As summer begins to give way to everyday life, how does it work for you?

What helps you get back into your routines after summer?

Are you someone who feels good with regular routines, or do you prefer to take each day as it comes?

And because we’re currently testing the app, there’s one more thing I’m particularly curious about:

If you could choose just one thing for an app to help you with in everyday life, what would it be?

Food and planning? Sleep and recovery? Movement? Remembering things? Creating structure? Or perhaps something completely different?

Please leave a comment. What you tell us could actually give us ideas about what’s important as we continue testing and developing the app.
