Waiting for a Washing Machine
Four hours of waiting for a washing machine turned into freshly dug potatoes, turning the compost, camping life, and a peaceful evening in our motorhome. Sometimes, the days that don’t go as planned remind us that life happens while we wait.
Waiting for a washing machine can feel like the longest wait imaginable.
The delivery was scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and we had to turn off the water. We did that already at ten o’clock to be prepared. A few hours without running water wasn’t really a problem, even if it felt a little unusual.
🥔 Fresh Potatoes from the Garden
When you’re waiting, you might as well make the most of the time.
My husband and I dug up a few rows of potatoes that we had planted at the end of April. They were large, beautiful potatoes, the kind that make you smile as you place them in the basket.
After that, we started turning the compost together. We managed about half of it, so the rest will have to wait for another day.
My husband also washed the motorhome while I mostly helped with the compost. We had planned to head out with LVL² early in the day. The idea was to leave as soon as the new washing machine had been installed. I honestly thought it would arrive before eleven, just like our previous one did a few years ago. But that wasn’t the case.
While we waited, my husband cooked lunch, and I took the opportunity to clean the laundry room thoroughly, even behind the machines.
🚐 Cleaning LVL²
Yesterday, I gave our motorhome a proper deep clean. It was spotless when I finished.
But today, when I went inside to put away the freshly washed laundry, I immediately saw the evidence that my husband had been there… wearing his shoes.
Well… since he isn’t the one vacuuming the motorhome, I suppose it’s easier to forget to take them off.
At 1:55 p.m., the washing machine finally arrived.
🧺 The First Load of Laundry
At two o’clock I started the very first load of laundry in the new machine.
Twenty minutes later I called our teenage girl and said,
”Your laundry is finished.”
She laughed and replied,
”I know. I’ve already hung it up.”
Before half past four in the afternoon, we had collected our groceries and checked in at the campsite in Trollhättan.
⚽ Football at the Campsite
Right now, the boys are outside watching the football match. Alfred is completely absorbed in the game, cheering and reacting to every exciting moment.
They’ve already been swimming in the pool, jumping on the giant inflatable pillow, and exploring the campsite. We’ve also had dinner. I enjoyed some crayfish, while the boys had grilled burgers and sausages.
Tomorrow I’m going to treat myself a little. I’m looking forward to pickled herring with freshly boiled potatoes and sour cream with chives. The potatoes came straight from our own garden, dug up only a few hours earlier. There’s something special about eating food you’ve grown yourself.
☕ This Is How We Work at Malix.se
Now I’m sitting inside the motorhome, writing my evening thoughts that you’ll read tomorrow morning with your first cup of coffee.
That’s how we work here at Malix.se.
The words grow during the evening, and in the morning they are ready to meet the world.
It’s actually quite beautiful.
An ordinary day filled with waiting, potatoes, compost, a new washing machine, camping life, and football.
Very often, it’s those ordinary days that turn out to be life itself.
🌿 Between the Lines
It’s remarkable how much life can fit into a day that was supposed to be nothing more than waiting.
We often believe that life will begin once the waiting is over. When the washing machine has arrived, when the holiday starts, or when the next goal has been reached.
But while we’re waiting, we dig potatoes, turn compost, laugh about muddy footprints in the motorhome, and share simple meals with the people we love.
Maybe that’s where life truly exists.
Not in what we’re waiting for, but in everything that happens while we wait.
🌿 Reflection
I think we spend too much time waiting for life to begin.
We wait for the weekend, for our holiday, for payday, or for everything to finally be finished.
Meanwhile, life quietly offers us small moments that deserve to be remembered.
This day began with waiting for a washing machine.
By the evening, we had harvested potatoes, turned the compost, washed our first load of laundry, bought groceries, checked into a campsite, and shared another beautiful summer day together.
Perhaps that’s what life really looks like.
Not the big moments we carefully plan, but all the little moments in between.
💚 A Question for You
What do you do when life makes you wait?
Have you discovered that the most ordinary days often become your favourite memories?
