Yesterday, one day too early, I published Thursday’s blog post. There was just one problem: it was Wednesday. 😄
With ADHD, doing can sometimes come before thinking. Why check what day it is when you can just get started? I managed to publish Thursday’s blog post, skip my morning swim and wake the little guy up for school before my thoughts finally caught up with me.
Apparently, I had started practising Thursday one day too early – and suddenly, both of us got a free day of summer holiday.

And publishing the blog post wasn’t the only thing I managed to do.
I woke the little guy because I was completely convinced that school was starting. I skipped my morning swim for the same reason.
Right. Time to get everyday life started again.
Then my thoughts went around one more time.
Wait a minute.
It’s Wednesday.
And suddenly, I had gained an entire extra day.
The little guy, who was already awake by then, got an extra day too. One more day before school starts. One more day before everyday life with schedules, obligations and everything else begins again.
And I got one more day of that summer-holiday feeling.
The strange thing is that the day wasn’t really extra at all. It had been there the whole time.
I was the one who had skipped it in my head.
But when I realised my mistake, it almost felt as though someone had handed it back to me.
Here you go. You can have Wednesday back.
A completely ordinary day suddenly felt free.
Maybe that’s why it also felt a little more valuable.
I intended to make the most of it.
Thursday Came One Day Too Early
Now, however, we have another problem.
Today is Thursday.
And I’ve already had Thursday once this week.
So perhaps I should simply regard yesterday as a practice day. A kind of dress rehearsal for getting back into everyday routines.
Yesterday, we practised.
Today, it’s for real.
Now we’re in live mode.
We simply repeat what we practised yesterday – except this time on the correct day of the week.
Thankfully, I don’t need to do the blog statistics again. They’re already published thanks to yesterday’s little journey through time.
I Could Blame AI
Of course, I could say it was AI’s fault.
That would be very convenient.
But it wouldn’t be true.
AI isn’t sitting here writing my blog posts for me. I do that myself. He is, however, pretty great at helping me with spelling, catching my thoughts and sometimes helping me work out what I’m actually trying to say.
But does he always know which day of the week I’m living in?
Apparently, that’s one responsibility I shouldn’t hand over completely.
Then again, I was the one who woke the little guy.
I can hardly blame AI for that.
Lucky I Wasn’t Going to Work
And then another thought occurred to me.
Thank goodness this wasn’t one of those early mornings when I had to leave for work.
Imagine getting up, getting ready and heading off – only to discover that I’d arrived a day too early.
My colleagues would have had something to laugh about for quite a while.
Except…
Oh, right.
I don’t work there anymore.
So actually, very few people need to know anything about my little mistake.
There’s me.
The little guy, whom I woke up.
And…
all of you reading this.
And that last part was entirely avoidable.
But where would the fun have been in that?
And Now There Are Two of Us
Just as I’m sitting here writing, the little guy appears.
He looks at me a little cautiously and asks:
“Carina… is it Wednesday or Thursday today?”
And we both burst out laughing.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who had moved the week forward by a day in my head.
He had also believed he was going to school yesterday.
So when I realised that it was actually only Wednesday, I wasn’t the only one who got a day back.
He got an extra day of summer holiday too.
A morning that started with me waking him because school was about to begin ended with both of us discovering that the summer holiday wasn’t quite over yet.
And now, here we are on the real Thursday, almost needing to check with each other:
Is it really Thursday today?
Yep.
Now it’s Thursday.
Here we go.
At least this time there are two of us who know what day it is.
I think.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one living one day too early. He had also believed he was going to school that morning.
Between the Lines
I almost like the fact that I got Wednesday wrong.
Because in the middle of all that silliness, I got to experience what it feels like to believe a free day is gone – and then get it back.
One more day before school starts.
One more day before everyday routines take over.
A day that was never actually lost, but still felt like a gift when I discovered it.
And perhaps yesterday was exactly what I needed.
A dress rehearsal.
Yesterday, we practised Thursday.
Today, we’re doing it for real.
And here we go.
How About You?
Have you ever woken up completely convinced it was a different day of the week?
Did you manage to do anything before discovering your mistake – leave somewhere a day early, miss something because you thought it was another day, or perhaps, like us, suddenly get a day back?
And isn’t it strange how a day that was there all along can still feel like a little gift when you thought it had already disappeared?
Tell me in the comments. I suspect we’re not the only ones who occasionally lose track of a day. 😄
