Another Morning in LVL² – 1000 km from Home but Close to the Heart

SE läs det här inlägget på SVENSKA

Foreword
This is a morning post written from the small table in our camper van. Coffee in hand, the world still quiet, and my body slowly waking up after a better night of sleep than the ones before. Gratitude and longing swirl together in my thoughts as the road waits outside.

On the Road Again – for the Last Time?

We’ve only been away for three days, but it already feels like forever since we left home. We’re now about 1000 kilometers north, and today we’ll continue towards Gäddede, Stekenjokk, and Vilhelmina – places we’ve visited so many times I’ve lost count.

But this trip isn’t just about us.
This one is for the Little One – so he’ll know what our country looks like. So he can say:

“I’ve been there. I remember. I know what it looks like.”

Maybe it’s the last time we take this journey. Because this is the last youth we’ll have living with us. That thought stirs something deep in me.

ADHD, Sleep, and the Soothing Rhythm of the Road

Last night I finally slept – not perfectly, but better. Around six and a half hours. The previous nights? Barely four. And with ADHD, that kind of sleep deprivation starts to eat away at both body and mind.

Sleep and ADHD don’t always go hand in hand.
The thoughts keep spinning, the body doesn’t settle, and even when you’re tired, it’s like your brain didn’t get the memo.

But here in the camper, something shifts. Maybe it’s the fresh, crisp northern air. Maybe it’s the rhythm of travel. The Little One, who often says he can’t fall asleep, drifts off in less than half an hour here. There’s a calm in motion that helps the chaos settle.

For ADHD bodies, movement can bring peace. When the outside moves, the inside can finally rest.

Vegset – Roadwork, Rocks, and Memories

Right now, we’re in Vegset, staying at a familiar campsite. Outside, roadwork is underway – just like it was three years ago when we were here.
The road closes between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., every night.

They’re widening the road and installing fences to catch falling rocks and forest debris. The timing is perfect for the campsite – the last stop before the road closes. Some might find it inconvenient. I think it’s clever.

Missing Home, Wondering About Tomatoes

Even though we just left, I already feel a pull toward home.
How’s the greenhouse doing?
Are the cucumbers bigger?
Have the tomatoes begun to ripen?

Our greenhouse waters itself – but only if the rain barrel isn’t empty. And the shower at home – oh, how I miss it. Campground showers work fine, but they stop when your coins run out. At home, there’s no such interruption.

A Little Guilt, A Lot of Gratitude

I have to admit, I felt a little guilty this morning.
Here I am, sitting in our lovely camper, traveling across countries, and still… missing home.
But then I reminded myself – we’re lucky.
Not everyone can do this. Not everyone has the means.

Be grateful, Carina. This is a gift.

There will be days, soon enough, when I sit at home and wish I were back on the road.

Writing on the Move – and Letting the Story Grow

Even though it’s a bit cramped and tricky, I’m still working on my book.
”The Winged Horse at Dusk.”
It was supposed to be a short story – but stories that carry feelings and challenges… they grow. And I’m letting it take the space it needs. I write a few pages each night, after we’ve parked and settled.

Final Words – from LVL², With Heart

That’s all for now.

A Day on the Road – From Otta to Vegset

We’ve now arrived in Vegset, after driving around 430 kilometers today – from Otta over the mighty Dovrefjell. Along the way, we made several stops – to refuel, eat, and take in the beautiful landscape. There’s always something to explore when driving through Norway.

Dovrefjell was especially striking – vast, rugged and majestic. A place where the silence itself feels sacred.

Fish Burgers and a Gnat Invasion

Once we got to the campground, we prepared some fish burgers. Our plan was to eat outside, but we were quickly ambushed by biting gnats – tiny, relentless and absolutely everywhere. We fled into our LVL² camper, but unfortunately, the little beasts followed us in. It was itchy, annoying, and downright gross.

Norway in Images – Fjords, Mountains and Roadworks

We managed to snap a few photos during the journey. Norway is breathtaking – a postcard in motion. Towering mountains, shimmering fjords, rivers and valleys… sometimes all at once. It’s a country that truly makes you pause.

That said, roadworks are everywhere right now. Nearly every few kilometers, you’ll encounter cones, signs, and reduced speed zones. But the roads are in excellent condition, so it’s hard to complain.

Diesel Prices and Random Observations

One curious thing we noticed: diesel prices vary a lot depending on location. In places with several gas stations, the price is often slightly lower – maybe a kind of quiet competition. A small but interesting detail.

Weather and Winds in the Norwegian Highlands

Right now the weather is mixed – between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius depending on altitude. Up in the highlands of Dovrefjell, the air was crisp and cool. In the valleys, it felt a bit warmer. You can really feel you’re traveling among the peaks – the air is fresh and bright.
