A morning at Hanatorp Camping and ADHD thoughts about life, the Jante Law and the joy of the Oskar Series. Quiet moments mix with game nights and fresh lake air.

Good morning – and welcome, whether you’ve been here before or just stumbled in for the first time.
The AI that tracks my blog stats whispered to me this morning: “You have readers from the USA, from Ireland – and from other parts of the world too.”
So, welcome to my little blog from Sweden. It’s far from perfect, but always honest and close to life.

The Jante Law and Me

What can I give you? Well, I’m Swedish, but I don’t carry much of the Jante Law in my blood.
For those unfamiliar – the Jante Law is like an old, unwritten rulebook that says: Don’t think you’re special. Don’t think you know more than others. Don’t think you can.
It runs deep in us Nordics, as if we were born with a small inner finger wagging at us: “Hold back.”

But you know what? I’ve set that finger aside.
I can say what I’m good at – and even feel proud of it. Bragging? No, not my style. But if you step into an area I’m passionate about, I’ll happily tell you, warmly and without apology.

Question for you: Do you think the Jante Law still rules too much in Sweden – or have we begun to let it go?

Morning by the Lake at Hanatorp Camping and ADHD

My coffee cup sits beside me. The motorhome door is ajar, letting in fresh air mixed with the sound of birds still willing to sing, even if less eagerly than in spring.
We’re at Hanatorp Camping, with the lake just a few steps away. Of course, swimsuits are ready – yesterday my husband told me the water was 22 degrees.

A still morning at Hanatorp Camping and ADHD on my mind. Coffee close, book open, and the door ajar so the lake air can drift in.

Question: Do you have a favourite place where you always feel calm, even when life runs fast?

Seafood, Yahtzee and the ADHD Brain at Hanatorp Camping and ADHD

Yesterday we had seafood for dinner. The little one isn’t fond of it, so he had toasted sandwiches from the grill instead.
The evening was calm, the sun sliding down behind the trees. My husband’s brother is parked behind us in his motorhome, and they challenged us to Yahtzee.

Yahtzee and my ADHD brain? Not a good match. It’s like trying to juggle dice, numbers and rules while my brain already has a queue of other thoughts demanding attention.
My working memory waves a red flag. Bonus? Straight? Does that even stick in my mind? Card games, kubb or pétanque – yes please. They’re simpler, and therefore work much better for me. I can join in even if I don’t always win.

Question: Are you someone who enjoys games with lots of strategy and rules – or do you prefer the simple and straightforward ones you can jump right into?

Plans Ahead – and the Camera Wait

We’ll stay here one more day before heading towards Askim. My husband wants to go to Åby to watch the trotters – though really, it’s about photographing them.
He’s bought a new camera, but it’s still somewhere on its way home. Poor guy has been waiting all week, so the anticipation is high.

Our spot at Hanatorp Camping and ADHD in tow – awning out, chairs ready, and an evening ahead full of laughter and maybe a game or two.

The Oskar Series Lives On

I see in the stats that The Oskar Series – Meeting Children with Neurodevelopmental Differences in School still draws readers.
That makes me happy. Oskar is not just a fictional figure – but also many children I’ve met, both at work and at home. Children who struggle with a world that often asks too much of them, but still blossom when we adults understand and meet them where they are.
There are more parts to the series, and maybe a new one will appear soon. So stay tuned.

Question: Have you read any part of the Oskar Series before? Which one touched you the most – and why?

Between the Lines – My Voice

The Jante Law says I shouldn’t think I’m anything. But here by the lake, with coffee in hand and the sun playing on the water, I feel that I am something – and that it’s okay.
And I’ve noticed that it’s exactly when I dare to ignore those old rules that life tastes the sweetest.
