Freedom in Lvl^2 and thoughts on public service in Sweden

Today my thoughts land in public service – and what public service means in Sweden today.

👉 🇸🇪 Read this post in Swedish Frihet i Lvl^2 – mellan cykelturer, snålblåst och tankar om public service

Now I’m sitting here again.
In Lvl^2.

The coffee is next to me – just like yesterday.
Same place. Same cup.
But not the same thoughts.

Yesterday I was completely immersed in my post about music and bans.
Today my thoughts have taken a different direction.

They land in public service – and what public service means in Sweden today.

📺 Public service, falukorv and the feeling that something is off

I’m thinking about Ebba Busch.
You know… the falukorv.

She said they would make sure it became cheaper.
But food has become more expensive.
More and more expensive. 30% more expensive than in 2022!

And now it’s about something else.
That journalists ask the “wrong” questions.
That they are biased.

And somewhere there, I pause.

Because I think:
what happens if we start to question those who are supposed to question?

🧭 Public service and when scrutiny weakens

I feel something in my body.

A concern.

Because if public service – like Sveriges Television and Sveriges Radio – is weakened or disappears…

What happens then?

Then it’s no longer the mission that leads.
Then it’s money.

And when money leads:

  • news can be silenced
  • scrutiny can decrease
  • fewer people dare to speak the truth

And I think…
is that where we want to end up?

Public service plays an important role in how we understand society.

🌍 Public service in a changing world

Sometimes it feels like we are seeing the same patterns in many places.

Small versions of Donald Trump.

Rhetoric that moves boundaries.
Words that affect us.

And it’s not always obvious at first.
But something shifts in the tone.

Democracy slowly wears down at the edges,
and the sense of safety we’ve had here in Sweden becomes smaller –
dependent on goodwill instead of solidarity.

We start looking for scapegoats instead of solutions.

🚲 But life goes on – and that matters too

At the same time…

We biked to the store yesterday.
Regular bikes. No electric assist.

With slightly underinflated tires.

And yes…
we’re not 25 anymore.

The body speaks up more now.
You feel it in your legs. In your back.

But we did it.

And there’s something beautiful in that.
It was so nice afterwards to just land outside in the sun at a campsite,
with not a single must.

🌬️ Cold wind and borrowed sunlight

I sat outside in the cold wind.

Borrowed some sunlight.

Felt my cheeks getting warm, almost red.
Even though the wind was cold.

And it was nice.

Truly nice.

🔥 Dinner, warmth and coming back inside

Public service and everyday life in Sweden – camping in motorhome Lvl^2 with outdoor cooking, wine bottles and simple living close to nature

My husband grilled fish. Fish for me.
He placed three slices of lemon under the small piece of salmon and grilled it.

We’ve bought a small grill plate for our gas grill – and it was perfect for the fish and mushrooms.

For himself and the young one, it was hamburgers and pork tenderloin.
My stomach can’t handle that kind of food, so I stayed with the fish.

Inside the camper, we had boiled potatoes
and I had made some garlic butter to go with it.

So good.
So simple.

We sat outside in our camping chairs and ate in the sun.

Then the dishes.
Then the cold creeping in.

And that feeling of going back inside.
Closing the door.

Sitting down again.

🚐 Freedom in the small things

And maybe that’s what freedom really is.

Not just politics.
Not just big words.

But this:

  • being able to bike even when it’s hard
  • sitting in the wind and still enjoying it
  • sharing a good meal, a glass of red wine, and togetherness
  • getting to step back into warmth

And being allowed to think your thoughts.
And write them.

💬 Question for you

What do you think about public service?

Is it important to you that it stays the way it is –
or do you think it needs to change?

❤️ Engagement and direction

I am a member of Socialdemokraterna.

For me, it’s about standing up for something.
About wanting to be part of shaping things.

If you want to get involved, you can read more here:

Because I truly believe it matters right now.

That we care.
That we participate.
That we don’t just watch.

✨ AHA – Public service

This is not just about politics.
These thoughts land in public service – and what it means in Sweden today.

It’s about safety.
About trust.
About the right to know – and to think freely.

And maybe also something simpler:

That in the middle of everything happening in the world,
I sit there with my coffee.

And just feel.

💭 Reflection

Sometimes a day holds more than you expected.

A bit of wind.
A bike ride.
A tired body.
And big thoughts about the world.

Everything fits.

And maybe something important lives right there –
in not choosing one over the other.

Yesterday has already come to rest in history.
Tomorrow is waiting somewhere ahead.

But right now –
this is where life happens.
