Longing for Spring

Christmas is packed away, and longing for spring begins quietly here at home.
The decorations are gone, everyday life returns, and a gentle stillness settles into the rooms.

The lime-green curtains are hanging in the kitchen now.
Not a Santa in sight.
There is a quiet resting in the rooms, and in the kitchen.

Christmas is packed away in a quiet kitchen, lime-green curtains and longing for spring

Christmas is packed away – longing for spring begins here, in the kitchen.
Lime-green curtains, no Santas, and a stillness that lets the room breathe again.

Welcome, spring – and thank you for a truly lovely Christmas.
A calm Christmas.
A Christmas where I met all my grandchildren.
A Christmas of stillness, good food, conversations, and a win for the Junior Hockey Team – even though that win was far from obvious.

And then there was the swim.
That I managed to bring Simon’s girlfriend along for a dip on Christmas Eve feels big.
I’m still impressed by her courage – how she, like me, went down step by step into the water.
It feels significant.
I think we have many swims ahead of us.

Christmas Is Packed Away – Longing for Spring in Everyday Life

The Christmas food is gone, and now it’s back to ordinary meals.
Except for the very cheap Christmas ham we found in the store yesterday.
It went into the crockpot, cooked slowly, then shredded and used for pasta and pizza.
It was so incredibly cheap that it was impossible not to buy it.

Yesterday we gathered all our deposit bottles and returned them at ICA in Uddevalla.
They have one of those machines where you pour the whole bag in and the machine does the rest.
We got more than 500 SEK back – and used it for groceries.

Christmas Is Packed Away – Longing for Spring Together

Today the little girl is having her birthday, so there will be a small celebration at home.
We’re serving homemade potato salad, roast beef, and grilled chicken legs.
Instead of cake, there will be ice cream, meringues, and chocolate sauce.
The present is wrapped and ready.

The Junior World Championship is ongoing, and here at home there will be many hours of hockey.

Christmas Is Packed Away – Longing for Spring in the Body

On Boxing Day, there was a swim.
The water was 4 degrees – cold and clear.
Wonderful to be in the moment as morning slowly revealed itself.
So good to come home afterward and get warm again.

Boxing Day morning by a still lake as Christmas is packed away – longing for spring, cold water, and a calm dawn.

Christmas is packed away – longing for spring, even when the water is four degrees.
A Boxing Day swim at dawn, where the morning shows itself in quiet beauty.

I’m truly content that Christmas is gone now.
Now I can really begin to long for spring.

Longing for Spring and Light

I’m looking for window lighting, but I don’t quite know what I want.
I’ve been browsing, but I haven’t found that this is it feeling yet.
I just know that I want lamps in the windows – it feels a bit too dark now that the outdoor lights are gone.

Between the Lines – AHA

When Christmas is packed away this early, it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it.
It was allowed to be finished when it was done.

The stillness that comes afterward is important to me.
It makes space.
For everyday life, for breathing, for the next longing.

The lamps I’m searching for in the windows might not just be lamps.
They are a way of holding on to the light, even when it’s dark outside.

Reflection

I notice how much I need transitions.
Not abrupt shifts, but gentle ones.
To pack things away, to swim in cold water, to come home and warm myself.
That’s how I begin again – little by little.

Yesterday has already settled into history.
Tomorrow is waiting further ahead.
But right now – this is where life happens.
