Art and Creativity in Everyday Life

Art and creativity in everyday life can sometimes reveal themselves more clearly than we expect – in a day without demands, without performance, and without goals.

Sometimes it doesn’t take more than a single day.
A day where nothing needs to be achieved, solved, or finished.

My husband and I went to Gothenburg. Just the two of us.
We visited the Gothenburg Museum of Art and saw an exhibition that stirred many thoughts. We moved on through rooms filled with paintings that had been hanging there for a long time. Some touched me deeply. Others left me mostly unsettled.

Art and creativity in everyday life – expressive sculpture at the Gothenburg Museum of Art

One of the figures in the exhibition – strong in its expression, hard to let go of.

And somewhere there it struck me:
the paintings I have at home are real paintings.
Not just mess or scribbles – but works that could actually hang there.

Much of what was shown at the museum was truly impressive.
But there were also pieces that looked like a small child had just gotten hold of a paintbrush and accidentally painted on something. Even if you tried, you couldn’t find a motif. No forms, no direction, no thought – just mess. Real mess.

It almost made me angry.
Such a waste of both canvas and paint – and above all, of time.
What irritated me even more was the thought that other people’s paintings, with craftsmanship and expression, could have hung there instead and spoken to me far more than works that looked like someone had simply dropped the brush straight onto the canvas.

This is art that stays with you.

Standing there, looking at the brushstrokes, at what is actually craftsmanship, I realized:
no.
It’s time to bring out the easel again.
I was filled with ideas.

When motif, craftsmanship, and story meet.
This one hurt. The boy’s resignation and the dangers in the background. A reality.

It became clear to me that art and creativity in everyday life are not about being seen, but about giving expression to what lives inside you.

Art and Creativity in Everyday Life – A Greek Restaurant in Majorna

After the museum, we went on to Majorna and sat down at a small Greek restaurant. The kind of place that doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is.

Spartan Greek.
Blue, white, warm.
Simple interior, but with soul.

I had grilled skewers with tzatziki and pan-fried potatoes.
It was absolutely delicious.

Simple food, skilled hands, no frills. EFESSOS TAVERNA.

And yes – I did think that my own tzatziki is better.
Not as criticism. Just a quiet observation.
Because they know how to cook. Truly. Just the way I appreciate. This restaurant is well worth a visit.

Not the Most Expensive – But the Genuine

The restaurant was about half the price of the more well-known one in the city center, Atena, where we’ve eaten a few times before.
But sometimes it’s not the most elaborate that gives the most.

Sometimes it’s:

simple food
skilled hands
a place that doesn’t put on a show

And perhaps most important of all:
being treated.
Being able to lean back.
Just being.

Art and Creativity in Everyday Life – I’m Not Difficult, I’m Creative

I understand more and more why I’ve sometimes felt misunderstood and difficult to live with.
Not because I’ve been demanding – but because I’m creative.

I can’t do the same thing all the time.
I need space.
I need color sometimes.
I need to write.
I need to cook from scratch.

And sometimes I just need to sit on the sofa and knit a sweater or a pair of mittens.

These are my artistic expressions.
This is how I live.

For me, art and creativity in everyday life are not a choice – but a way of living.

When We Came Home – The Scent That Was Waiting

When we came home, the house smelled wonderful.
Before we left, my husband and I had put a small pulled pork in our Crock-Pot. It had been doing its thing all day, without any stress.

That’s what we’ll eat tomorrow.

I’ll make a bit of coleslaw, just chop some vegetables – and then the meal is ready.
There’s already tzatziki and feta cream in the fridge.
I’ll bake a loaf of bread.

And that’s it.
Dinner served.

Reflection

This wasn’t a big day.
It was a real day.

Art that stirred thoughts.
Food made with knowledge.
And moments where I could be both creative and still – together with the person I share my life with.

Yesterday has already settled into history.
Tomorrow is waiting somewhere ahead.
But right now – this is where life happens.
